In a bold step toward reshaping the future of education and gender representation in the tech space, 60 female educators were officially inducted into the first cohort of the Women Educators in Internet and Technology (WEITech) program. The induction ceremony, held in April 2025, marked the beginning of an intensive digital empowerment journey tailored specifically for unemployed female teachers.

WEITech is a program designed to bridge the digital gender divide by equipping unemployed female teachers with the digital literacy, internet, and educational technology skills needed to thrive in today’s tech-driven learning environments. The induction ceremony served as the official welcome into the program, offering an interactive experience to the inaugural cohort.

Each participant arrived with a learning device — either a smartphone, tablet, or laptop — underscoring the program’s hands-on and practical approach to digital education. For many, this was their first structured exposure to the power of digital tools in transforming educational delivery.

The ceremony featured practical sessions on how to navigate Google Classroom — the central platform for course delivery — as well as teamwork exercises, icebreakers, and a tech buzz puzzle activity to foster bonding and collaboration among cohort members. Participants were introduced to the course structure, module expectations, and the Participant Guide, which outlined the roadmap for their journey through the program.

From AI in education to digital content creation and online teaching strategies, the program is designed to turn today’s unemployed educators into tomorrow’s teacherpreneurs.

As one participant put it:

“WEITech is already changing how I see myself. I’m no longer just a teacher — I’m becoming a digital educator ready to shape the future of learning.”

The WEITech program continues to represent DreamOval Foundation’s commitment to inclusive digital education, ensuring that no woman is left behind in the digital revolution. By empowering these 60 women with practical, future-ready skills, WEITech is planting the seeds for a more inclusive and tech-savvy education sector in Ghana.

With the successful induction of Cohort 1, WEITech continues to champion the cause of accessible, inclusive, and future-focused digital education for women in Ghana
